Quick and Easy Tips on Altering Your Clothes

Are you wondering how to make your clothing last longer? Worry not!

Whether you're a fashionista, a busy parent, or have yet to learn what you're doing with the needle and thread - don't fret. We've put together some quick and easy tips for altering your clothes to give them a new lease on life.

We'll discuss simple methods of changing up the fit of your garments, extending their life span and adding creativity to spice it up. So if saving money while staying fashionable appeals to you – keep reading!

A simple alteration you can make with almost any piece of clothing is taking in the sides or sleeves for a better fit. This can be done by simply cutting off the excess fabric and stitching up the new seams.

Hemming is another easy alteration that can add so much to your look. It can be done on pants, skirts, and many other types of clothing. To do this, measure the desired length with a tape measure and mark it with tailor's chalk. Then pin along the marked line and cut off any excess fabric. Finally, stitch up the hem using a zig-zag or straight stitch, depending on the fabric type.

Adding patches can be a great way to give your clothing an extra pop of colour or interest. It's also incredibly simple – all you need is a patch of fabric, some thread and a needle, and you're good to go! Stitch the patch onto the desired area, and voila – you've got a whole new look.

Finally, don't forget about accessorising! Accessories can be an inexpensive way to spruce up your old clothing and add some extra flair. For example, consider adding a belt or scarf to dress up a plain shirt or skirt or swapping out the buttons on your favourite jacket.
