It's happened to all of us. We're going about our day when we snag our favourite sweater on a thornbush or some other sharp object. Before we know it, there's a big hole in our clothes, and we don't know what to do about it!
In this blog, I will teach you how to properly repair knitwear so your clothes can last longer!
When you first notice the hole, it's important to take a deep breath and resist the urge to panic. Knitwear is delicate, and you could make the hole worse if you're not careful. So the first thing you'll want to do is assess the damage. Knowing if the hole is big or small or if there are any loose threads is an excellent first step.
If the hole is small, you can simply stitch it up with a needle and thread. Start by threading your needle with a piece of thread that matches the colour of your sweater. Then, make tiny, tight stitches around the hole, careful not to pull too hard on the fabric. If the hole is more prominent, you might need a patch to cover it up.
To make a patch, cut a piece of fabric slightly larger than the hole. Then, use a needle and thread to stitch the patch onto the sweater, making sure to go around the edges of the hole. Once the patch is in place, you can trim any excess fabric.
If your sweater has loose threads, you'll want to trim them, so they're the same length as the rest of the sweater. Once you've done that, you can use a needle and thread to sew them back in place. Start by threading your needle with a piece of thread that matches the colour of your sweater. Then, insert the needle under the loose thread and pull it through. Repeat this process until the thread is secure.
